BJ is a 20-year veteran of fire and EMS service and holds numerous certifications in the field. Previously a Captain with the Horry County Fire Rescue Department in South Carolina, BJ has proudly built some of the most successful EMS education programs in the southeast before moving to Wyoming in 2024. BJ previously worked as a lead EMT and AEMT instructor, acted as the department’s Sepsis Coordinator and Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator, and oversaw protocol enhancement, development, research. Holding an A.A.S. in Emergency Medical Technology, a B.S. in Professional Studies, and an M.Ed. in Adult Education, BJ has received many awards including Paramedic of the Year and Educator of the Year. As a national conference presenter on many topics including education, pediatric, provider mental health, and many others, BJ brings excitement and passion each time he speaks. BJ was born and raised in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He and his wife Cara have 5 children and a miniature poodle named Graham Cracker. BJ notes, “I believe in excellence in all things we do, personally and professionally and I am excited to lead our amazing EMS organization with a mindset of achieving and maintaining excellence for ourselves and our community.”
