He attended the Ohio State University where he majored in Latin and Ancient Greek. Inspired by some adventures working offshore in the oil fields of Louisiana, he enlisted in the US Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. The Navy was a fantastic all-around opportunity that helped him grow up as a person where he also found his calling in medicine. He attended the American University of the Caribbean on St. Maarten and completed his Family Medicine Residency at UICOM in Peoria, IL. It made sense to pursue residency in Family Medicine having lived, worked, and taken care of sailors and Marines all those years. Board-certified in Family Medicine, he plans on practicing a full spectrum of medicine. He and his wife recently bought a house here. He is excited about serving the Sublette County community. He was born in Washington, Pennsylvania (near Pittsburgh) and married his wife Cindy in 1976. They have two sons. He attended Walla Walla College (now University) in Washington State, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology in 1979 with a minor in Chemistry. And then received a Master of Arts in Business degree from Webster University in 1989. He is a Fellow (now retired) of the American College of Health Care Executives and rose through the ranks within the hospital environment, beginning as an evening shift medical technologist. He was CEO/Administrator of Sedgwick County Health Center (1996-2000) in Julesburg, Colorado, a small farming town in northeastern Colorado. The assisted living center was developed, financed, built, and occupied to capacity during Bill’s tenure as CEO. CEO/Administrator of Sitka Community Hospital (2000-2005) in Sitka, Alaska, a small fishing/tourist community in south-east Alaska. The facility, owned by the City and Borough of Sitka, was a hospital, a nursing home, had physician clinics and a Home Health agency. CEO/Administrator of St. John’s Lutheran Hospital (2005-2012) (now Cabinet Peaks Medical Center) in Libby, Montana. Oversaw the planning and financing for a 25-bed, 76,000 sq. ft. replacement hospital. President/CEO of Powell Valley Healthcare (2012-2015). Led the development of a culture change and quality improvement initiative, in partnership with the Studer Group, called the Journey to Excellence. CEO of Taos Health System (2015 to 2022). Developed and implemented a RIF. Engaged the local union and developed a good working relationship with local union leadership. Developed facility strategic and master plans. Implemented a “Commitment to Excellence” leadership development and education initiative in association with the Studer Group. In 2016 campaigned for a healthcare related property tax which was reauthorized in 2020. Oversaw the organization’s response to the COVID pandemic. Interim CEO of Rehoboth McKinley Christian Health Care Services for more than one year. Helped the organization avoid bankruptcy and helped financially stabilize the organization. In his spare time Bill enjoys working in his shop (auto mechanics and home repair). Her certifications include Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Trauma Nurse and Emergency Nurse Pediatric Care. She received the Daisy Award in 2021 for excellence. She also serves on the Wyoming Governor’s EMS / Trauma Advisory Committee and the Sublette County Pandemic Task Force. She has worked in Sublette County since 2008. Prior to that she worked at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital in Salt Lake City. Earning an undergraduate degree in English while studying pre-med, he graduated from the University of Utah School of Medicine and trained for another three years in emergency medicine at Allegheny General Hospital, a level I trauma center on the north shore of Pittsburgh. After completing his training and becoming board-certified, Dr. McLaren focused on rural Emergency Medicine, working in Evanston, Wyoming during the COVID pandemic. He’s worked in Utah, Pennsylvania, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Alaska providing rural emergency medical care throughout his career. Being from the west, Dr. McLaren enjoys skiing, hiking, mountain biking, and being outdoors. In his free time, he spends time writing books, music, and enjoying family. Previously a Captain with the Horry County Fire Rescue Department in South Carolina, BJ has proudly built some of the most successful EMS education programs in the southeast before moving to Wyoming in 2024. BJ previously worked as a lead EMT and AEMT instructor, acted as the department’s Sepsis Coordinator and Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator, and oversaw protocol enhancement, development, research. Holding an A.A.S. in Emergency Medical Technology, a B.S. in Professional Studies, and an M.Ed. in Adult Education, BJ has received many awards including Paramedic of the Year and Educator of the Year. As a national conference presenter on many topics including education, pediatric, provider mental health, and many others, BJ brings excitement and passion each time he speaks. Her nursing journey began at Wyoming Medical Center, where she worked on the medical floor before transitioning to the OR. After having her first child, she sought a more family-friendly schedule and joined Western Medical Associates, first as a float nurse and later as the full-time RN for a provider. In 2017, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Kaplan University. In 2022, Lindsey and her family moved to Big Piney, where she continued working remotely for Western Medical before transitioning to Sublette County Health. Now she gets to continue the work she loves in primary care in Sublette County. Big Piney is more than just home—it’s part of her family’s legacy. Her mother, grandfather, great-grandmother, and generations before them were raised here. Her great-great-great-grandfather, Daniel B. This endeavor led her to the beautiful state of Wyoming where she met her husband, Bill, and decided to settle in Big Piney. Following a 17-year career as an insurance agent for Farm Bureau Financial Services she eventually decided to retire in order be more available to her two very active children, Jak and Grace, and also have time to volunteer and give back to the community that has treated her so well. While she has sat on many boards, it is the time she has spent sitting on the board of the Sublette Center that she deems most valuable. Living in a small rural community allows one to see the real importance of being able to provide necessary services to our aging family and friends without having to travel 100 miles or more. She also feels strongly that the need to successfully provide all healthcare services is crucial when living in rural Wyoming which is why she worked to promote the creation of a Hospital District and also build a Critical Access Hospital with a new Long Term Skilled Nursing facility. No. Community integrated health is not the same as home health. While services may be provided in the home, community health workers focus on connecting individuals to resources, supporting care coordination, and addressing social needs. This work can complement home health services but does not replace it. What does a Community Health Worker do in this program? Community Health Workers help individuals navigate the healthcare system, access social services, manage chronic conditions, overcome barriers such as transportation, food insecurity, and language access. Who qualifies for community integrated health? Typically, individuals with chronic health conditions, frequent hospital visits, or unmet social needs may qualify. Eligibility may vary by program and health provider. Where do services take place? Servies can be provided in the home, over the phone, in community settings, or wherever the client feels most comfortable. How is this different than case management? While both roles support individuals, Community Health Workers often have lived experience in the communities they serve and focus more on building trust, advocacy, and addressing social determinants of health. Does it cost anything? Community integrated health services are often covered by Medicare and are usually offered at no cost to the client. How do Community Health Workers work with my Provider? Community Health Workers collaborate with Providers, nurses, and case managers to ensure clients follow care plans, attend appointments, and get support for non-medical needs that affect health.
